your n° 1 record: jopparelli from music selections

Photobucket

Hi everybody, this is Joppa AKA Arthur Jopparelli, representing with my man Marty for our blog: Martini & Jopparelli's Music Selections. I'm very glad our friend DJ Blueprint invited me to write about my number one record on his unique site. What I like in this site is the variety, Blueprint selects a lot of good sounds and inspirations from around the world, and gives warm hospitality to a lot of talented people. I'm honoured to contribute one more time with something different and -i hope- good for ya.

Well, my number one record is a dance single from 1982 by legendary producer Tee Scott (discogs)

First thing first, I love it because it's one of my first records. I found it by chance diggin in one of those "one dollar all" crates in a record shop, where you find the unexpected stuff, you know what i'm sayin? (well actually it was "5000 Lire" crate back in the days, here in Italy). Anyway, i picked it up, saw the group name "Brooklin Express" and the release date and place, New York 1982. So I gave it a quick listen and found out that record was straight bangin! From day one, this record never left my DJ bag when playing around, and every time i play it still works great.

Some years after buying it, something like 8 years later, I went to see Richard Dorfmeister and Jazzanova in a club in Milan and....surprise...they played it! Nobody in the club knew what it was because it's not a common track: nobody except me, smiling and dancing, so proud of my favourite record being played by superstar DJs!

A classic disco track, but very modern indeed, still playable after more than 20 years, this track is basically a remix of Jimmy Bo Horne "Spank". I chose the B-side "Change position", which is a different edit, like a upside-down turn of the main track, starting with a dope Moroder-inspired synth bassline and then introducing the main theme with crazy sirens. Hope you like it!

Peace
Jopparelli
